With the way the OE intake has the under-hood scoop, it's effectively a ram-air type intake. I can't imagine putting a cone filter under the hood improves anything, at least not without a larger TB and a turbo tune to tell it to open up a bit more and dump more fuel, especially not for $300.

K&N does have a part number for their less restrictive air-flow filter now that matches the 1.6T. I have one ordered.
