Has anyone figured out how to disable the adaptive smart cruise?

I absolutely cannot stand the SCC , especially with how I drive. It makes the car borderline unbearable. I also don't want the car stepping on the brakes for me while going down a hill with it set, let alone it smashing on the brakes if I come up on a car and don't get over quick enough.

Manual suggests holding the car with 3 lines button for 3 seconds with the cruise control on, but no speed set yet. Issue is that when you press the cruise button above the speed adjustment button, it automatically sets a speed that is then saved. There is no way to activate the cruise system without saving a speed to the "resume" feature.

I've been asking this since I bought mine back in July last year. Nobody at the dealership has a clue. The owner's manual is WRONG. I wish I knew how to complain to Kia directly. This is a BIG FAIL on their part.

I agree it's a massive fail. There should ALWAYS be an option to disable safety features, especially ones that are as simple as electronic programming.

That video does not apply to the K5 system.

You can hold any combination of the buttons for any amount of time and it will never change from SCC to standard.

Kia needs to have a software update to the K5 to allow this.

I've tried everything. I've tried the method from the Telluride. The methods from the Stinger. All Kia model methods. Older methods from 2014. Methods from 2020.

A call to Kia most likely won't do anything. This seems to be an unsolvable issue. Maybe with enough complaints they will come out with a software update that might allow it.

I’m not sure if you’re big into Instagram or Twitter. But anytime I direct message them or wrote on all their posts about an issue they have a Kia representative reach out to me. The power of social media

I started spamming their Instagram posts and finally they contacted me and asked for my info so they could contact me further.

I'll try to follow up here with what they say.

I reached out to their Consumer Assistance Center today and told them their Feature and Functions Guide is wrong.

"From K5 Features and Functions Guide, Page 24
To change the cruise control mode from SCC to standard cruise control, press and hold button C . Repeat to switch back to SCC mode (the SCC system must not be activated to change modes)."

They're supposed to follow up within 48 hours. We'll see.

And of course the Kia Consumer Assistance Center never followed up.
