So this has only happened once so far,(mostly cause I haven't tried to recreate it) but I have the stop and go cruise control and was riding in some paticularly slow traffic when my engine just stalled out. The traffic was flowing between 2-10 MPH so the car never did come to a full stop where I would have to press the pedal to keep moving. However at one point when it was about to speed back up the engine just stalled out. It almost seemed like it had itself in too high of a gear for the speed it was trying to go. Anyone had this happen?

Perhaps I misunderstood the intended use of Stop and go cruise control but I was under the impression it was designed specifically for having to deal with traffic?

Hello. This happened to me also with smart cruise but the car also stalled on me twice at stops. Did you get your car looked at and if so what did they find. I have only had my k5 for two weeks and it’s currently at the dealer. They can’t seem to replicate the issue but considering it happened three times in two weeks it shouldn’t be that hard or long until it happens.

I haven't had a problem since that one time. And I have used the cruise control in slow traffic since. I'm chalking it up as just the engine still being in the break in period 🤷

Alright thank you. Please inform me if it happens again. I’ll also let you know of any findings on their end, if it ever happens to you again you’ll have as much info as you need.

thank you

I have a k5 gt line and today when I was driving while using smart cruise control, on the highway during on going traffic and in the city during on going traffic where on all occasions when the car went on a full stop, the smart cruise control canceled and the engine completely turned off while on drive mode, so ever time it did it I had to put the car on parking mode and turn on the engine; this happened 5 times where on one occasion I almost crashed because as soon as it turned off the car moved forward because the engine was off and the road down hill while the car in front of me was fully stopped. I just got it last weekend.

I just got mine back from the dealer early last week. They weren’t able to reproduce the problem but they told me they reprogrammed the adaptable part of the transmission and they also told me they added 1/2 liter of transmission fluid.

Since then it never stalled again neither with smart highway drive, smart cruise, at a stop like it did previous, or in traffic. After a lot of reading on the optima forums with 1.6 liter engines, they mention their transmissions had issues like this and stalls mostly because the fluid levels are low. I’ll update if it happens again on my end but it seems a lot more stable and hesitant in traffic.

i suggest you bring it to Kia and have them do what they did on mine.

hope it helps.

Sorry. It seems more stable and less hesitant, the rpm also moves around alot less and I haven’t seen it below 700 rpm. Before this appointment to the dealer it would go from 1500 to 300 back to 1000 then stop within a few seconds when stopped.

I set up an appointment for tomorrow at 3 at the kia dealership where I bought it from no more than a week ago. Lol I don't even have a week with the car and it's already showing symptoms of weakness. Weak gt line. I'll keep you guys posted in 2 weeks when they return the car, it takes 2 weeks they said lol 😆

please let me know what they do. They had mine for a week and since they couldn’t reproduce they gave it back to me with the reprogramming and the added oil. It works well since but I am curious to know if they find something more on your end that can ensure it’s resolved. Thank you and I wait for your update.
