We have a 2021 Kia GT Line that we bought new in February 21’ with 3 miles on the odometer. It now has 18k miles after 6 months because my wife drives 120 miles round trip to work daily; Our previous 13’ Kia Sorento we also bought new and it was totaled out with 170k miles on it when a teenager ran a red light. The only maintenance I ever had to do was brake pads and front ball joints around 150k miles. It was the best vehicle we ever owned so we went with a Kia again….

Within a couple months we had it in because the CarPlay on the radio will randomly disconnect while driving and using maps. We were instructed to delete the phones from the radio followed by resetting the radio itself. The problem returned and they did a software update. Unfortunately that didn’t correct it either as it still will cut out even with new iPhone 12s and switching our carrier recently. The music will start cutting out and then the radio says the phone was disconnected. Sometimes it will reconnect. Other times the screen will go black and not respond unless we push physical buttons for the radio.

Not long after we were driving and it the traction control light came on and the cruise was disabled with an error message. We weren’t far from the dealer so we took it right over and they diagnosed a faulty abs sensor and it was replaced.

Then about a month ago the driver’s power seat stopped working and wouldn’t go forward or backward so my wife has been driving with a pillow behind her. The dealership found a broken plastic piece under the seat that the motor was mounted to and had to order and wait on it.

Last week we went on a 5 hour road trip and the traction control light on again followed by disabled cruise. I pulled off an exit and shut the car off and back on and it went away. I also noticed the car shaking when braking (classic signs to me of warped brake rotors). We called them and they finally had the seat part in so had us bring it in yesterday to have that put on…

So, picking up the car today and they’ve replaced the seat track, could not replicate the ABS issue because it resets once the car is power cycled, and told us that warped brake rotors on a 6 month old car with 18k miles is normal west and tear due to driving style… I don’t believe that for a second because I never had to replace the rotors on our Sorento in 170k miles and my wife drives 120 miles a day on the interstate…. The one thing that I can see causing a problem is the Smart/Adaptive Cruise engaging the brakes every time she is approaching another vehicle on the interstate now high obviously happens quite a bit on her commute. I feel like this, coupled with some low quality brake rotors could contribute to premature wear.

Anyway, I’m curious if any of this has happened to anyone else. She is very much regretting getting the vehicle now.

Wow same thing happened to me had a 2015 Kia Optima best car I’ve had never in the shop. Was totaled in February because I was hit by an F150 while at a stop light. I bought the K5 because it looks nice and was the replacement for optima. Just had my check engine light come on and had to have my whole shearing column replaced with 10,000 miles. The engine issue they said was from a bad gas cap so that was replaced and the new stealing column is great but I hope this isn’t the start of being at the shop all the time with a brand new car. I don’t have time for this.

did they ever figure out the pulsing brake issue? Iv had a slight steering wheel shake at highway speeds when braking. its getting worse and i cant imagine i already have warped rotors on a brand new car.

7000 miles on my k5 and brake rotors are warped also. Service writer said he’s seeing it, and it’s common. Same garbage about driving style. If it’s common, we’re not all bad drivers, there’s a design flaw somewhere. This isn’t the only forum and thread about this very topic either. Something is causing over heating in these brakes.

I have a little shake in my steering wheel as well, but only at lower speeds and only at certain pedal pressure. I'm just wondering if going wih a better set of aftermarket rotors may help alleviate the problem or if the problem will continue to persist.

21 K5 with 12k miles has worn brakes and rotors and need to be replaced according to the dealer. I was experiencing shaking in the steering wheel while braking at highway speeds. Currently waiting for Kia to determine if they will cover under warranty. This is obviously a major with a lot of K5s. I drive my car like an old lady I can’t even remember a time where I slammed on the brakes hard in this car. Will be looking into AM rotors and brakes if Kia does not cover this under warranty.

I have a little over 16,000 miles on my GT-Line AWD and so far I haven't noticed anything with the brakes. My 2016 Optima was a great car and as someone else already mentioned. I got the K5 since it was the Optima's replacement. I kind of figured it was a more aggressively styled Optima with AWD. I keep my fingers crossed that none of the commonly reported issues comes up on my car.

Most likely warped rotors. Hopefully, they can get it resurfaced or replaced under warranty. The issue is not too serious on my car so I'm holding off on it. I might look into some aftermarket brakes and rotors later on.

We have a 2021 GTline that has had the carplay problem since new. Not all the time, but at least twice a month just a black screen when we hit carplay button. Resetting the unit by the reset button or turning the car off will get it working again. I’ve documented this with at least 14 videos that have been forwarded to the service manager at Rusty Wallace Kia in Alcoa, TN. The car has been in their shop three times (total of 5 weeks they’ve had it so far) and can’t duplicate it so they say there is not a problem with the navigation unit.Happened with both of our iPhones (different models and both latest updates) using apple power cord, connected by Bluetooth, and still have the issue. I was a computer tech so I know how to troubleshoot so I’ve got the issue (and the minor variations of the basic problem).documented. Car has 25k on it now and we are very frustrated that Kia won’t just replace the unit. We also hade the warped front brake rotors too. They milled the rotors and solved the problem at a cost of $300 to us.
