Knocking noise in engine

k5 EX with premium package. 7 1/2 months of ownership. has anybody else noticed a slight knocking sound upon acceleration after each shift. Mine started at about 4000 miles. Took it to dealership and they agreed noise was there and opened a techline case with Kia. Road tested and sent a video to Kia they said they would send a new replacement engine and the dealership installed it at 6000 miles. Drove car home and next day noise was back. Dealership now says that is a normal sound for this engine. Also had a rubbing sound in steering column when turning the steering wheel. Kia sent a new replacement steering column and dealership changed it . Problem solved quiet now. Curious if anybody else has had these issues and their comments about them.

I am just trying to figure out why there is a coolant smell. I’ve been to the dealership on 3 separate occasions and no luck. I have one open tech line case but have not heard anything.

Had a coolant smell after installation of new engine but is has dissipated now. Just residual spill of coolant with engine change.

I have owned my kia since January 28, 2021 in the first 2 weeks I noticed the moter making a knocking sound which has progressively gotten louder. There is a noise when I turn my wheel but not all the time . I have several issues , it's not air tight, the engine cuts out like loss of power a lot, it acts like transmission slips or hesitates, the roaters repeatedly cover in rust, the brakes grab and make a dragging sound, when in sport mode the Rpm's tac out in the red zone before trans changes gears and remain at high Rpm while driving, when I Wash car water gets inside of car and trunk, the body alignment is off, sewing on interior coming out, the remote start works sometimes to crank but doesn't stay running long enough to warm engine. That's all I can think of right now. I would like to know how you got the dealership to fix anything ? My dealership said they would look at it but if they say nothing is wrong then I would have to pay them $145.00. They act as if they cant hear me tell them that all of this is wrong with my car. Any suggestions welcome.

My suggestion is you either ended up with a complete lemon that the dealership mistreated before they sold it to you or you sound like a complete whiner and complainer because that’s just a ridiculous amount of issues on a new car

Well I agree it's most certainly a lemon and it is a ridiculous amount of problems that's what I have been trying to tell my dealership but they aren't doing **** about it. As far as a whiner or a complainer I seriously doubt it.

I overstepped my bounds and apologize for my tone. I love the new K5 GT and feel terrible about your treatment by the dealer. When I had telluride issues regarding my dealership experience I called corporate customer service and they helped. By calling the dealer and issuing my a one time monthly payment credit.
also, many states have lemon laws so please document everything
Best of luck 🤞

Thank you much. Good advice.

Another dealership. Best bet
Update on k5 engine noise. 10k miles slight knock upon acceleration still there. kia dealer says that is the normal sound don't worry about it it is under warranty. Forgot to mention the steering column replacement took 3 months to get new column although it did fix the problem. Today car was back for repair of smart trunk, unlatches but does not lift to be hands free as salesmen described. Changed torsion lift springs in trunk, no difference took 6 weeks to get new springs wasted my day. Car generally performs very well but these problems are starting to get to me. 10 year warranty doesn't mean much if the problems can't be repaired.

So, I traded in an Optima for my K5 and the 1st thing I noticed was the smart trunk actually worked in the K5. My Optima would unlock but never popped open which totally defeats the purpose of having it open automatically. I did not realize the Optima was not working as designed until I got my K5.

Holy **** just realized the same thing
I bought my K5 the beginning of May 2021. It had 3000 miles on it. It now has a ticking sound coming from the engine :-( it also has started like a shake that feels as if the car is going to shut off but doesn't. My trunk also gets water/condensation in the truck light and a little amount within the seal. I have an appointment to take it to be looked at with the dealer. Starting to wonder if I made a bad purchase?? 🤔😭😭😭

Many cars get condensation in the lights. Not much of a problem unless theres actual water there. The shake should be minor no more than 100rpm difference. Ticking sound is after u turn the car off?

No the ticking is while the car is on. And while sitting idle with no air or radio on, (only car engine on) it is shaking as if it is going to die/cutoff, but it doesn't. The water is mainly under the rubber seal of the trunk. The light only has condensation.

I mean that's what warranties are for. Let kia fix that if it's not normal. I have very little condensation in the rear doesnt bother the light nor me. The shaking I have but I think it's just normal small engine idle.

When you mean ticking, do you mean literally a consistent ticking sound or is it the engine idle RPM just kind of going up and down when in Park?

I bought my K5 back in Jan '21 and just reached 3,000 miles myself but no apparent ticking noise coming from the engine. I also did my first regular intake valve cleaning.
