Mods I've Made to My GT-Line

I just wanted to create a thread for tracking my car and the mods (such as they are!) I'm doing to it. It won't be a lot or anything major so don't expect to be blown away by something unusual or unexpected, but just in case it helps someone in the future...

I'm really pretty happy with the looks of my K5. I love the color, the wheels, the design and styling, and even the non-Bose sound system doesn't sound bad to my ears (I'll preface that comment w/ the fact my hearing sucks and I have tinnitus). I won't be doing mods to the drivetrain, as I don't want to void my lifetime powertrain warranty. That being said, it's not perfect, so there are a few things that I've already done that I'll share. Many of these are things I've learned or seen on other peoples cars, some from my own experience, most right here on this forum, so please don't be offended if I don't share where I originally saw the mod.
  • First thing I did was to install a CarLink Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless adapter. I forget where I actually got mine, because I paid $55 for it when I got it. I was using it in my Camry before it got totaled, so I just transferred it to the K5. I don't want to be bothered to plug my phone in every time that I want to stream music or use Waze (which is all the time), so this was a must.
  • Next, my phone (iPhone 13 Pro) didn't work all that great in the Qi charger. I did find that by cutting a straw to 3 1/8" long and dropping it into the cavity for the phone that it lifted it up to a better location, and now it charges with no issue.
  • My car came w/ the Premium package and carpeted floor mats, but not weather proof mats, so next up was a set of WeatherTech HP FloorLiners. I like the HP line better than the others, as they are more rubbery and fit better. I just got them for the front seats, as I'll rarely carry anyone other than my rescue dog Stuart in the back. Which brings me to the next mod...
  • I installed THIS hammock in the rear seat for my buddy Stu. It works OK, not great, but it does the job. I also throw a blanket in the hammock for him, and wash it once a week to try and keep the dog hair at bay! Good luck with that... :ROFLMAO:
  • I installed THIS center console organizer. Not much to say about it, other than it works fine and does it's job!
  • Next were THESE rear LED turn signal bulbs. Much brighter than the incandescent bulbs that were replaced, and no error messages. Amazon says they don't fit, but I've found that Amazon's Confirmed Fit is 60% accurate at best. They work great.
  • Next was THIS LED trunk light. This is a MUST! SO much brighter than the weak little factory incandescent bulb it's crazy. And so simple to change.
  • I replaced the original reverse light bulbs with THESE. Much brighter than stock, which was a big deal for me, as we have almost no light around where we live. Work great.
That's it for the moment. I'll add more to this thread as I add things/change things.

Yes, 3 times in one direction and then had to set the zone. Easy enough.
Mine came with mirror from factory as add on. That and my wonderful carpeted mats 😂 and overpriced led trunk light

Got the license plate lights changed over to LEDs last night. They're about the same brightness as the incandescent, which to me is good - I didn't want them to be really bright, but they are obviously whiter than the others were. Just a couple of 194 bulbs I had laying around. Now, the only incandescent left to replace (I think) is the rear interior light.

--EDIT--

Nope, I still have the visor lights that are incandescent, and based on what others have been posting, it's a b!tch to change these out. Not worth the aggravation to me, so no LEDs for them! :ROFLMAO:

Cool your plate color matches your car. Mine does as well. It's the UNM plate. It's lgrey and red. And has a gray wolf on it. Couldn't be more perfect for my wolf/red setup

Yeah, mine is a special interest plate, with a golden retriever on it. Kinda cool it matches., wasn't intentional! Costs an extra $25 a year, but that money goes into a fund to support dog shelters in OH. I generally don't like to give government entities any more money than absolutely necessary, but I make an exception here. All but one of our dogs have been rescues, and our current lab-mix Stuart is one as well.

We've had nothing but rain these past few days here in Florida... All I could do was a quick wash compared to normal. Raining so bad that it's been flooding everywhere.
Yeah, I've got relatives up and down the east coast (I used to live in DAB). My mom (in Ormond Beach) hasn't had a huge amount, but my in-laws in Boca have been getting hammered.

Can you post night shots of the license plate lights from 10-20ft away. I also like a whiter but not brighter LEDs

I meant to get that pic this morning before I got to work, and of course I forgot. I'll try and remember tomorrow. Sorry!
The LED bulbs you used - were they Canbus LED bulbs?

TIA

This might be a bit closer than you asked for, but here it is. I'll try and get another from a bit farther back. They're not as bright as they appear in the pic, but against the taillights, they do appear bright. All relevant I suppose. I used THESE bulbs with no error messages (they are polarity sensitive in spite of what their description says), though I thought they were too dim in the interior map lights.

This is just a minor thing, but I got the rear dome light replaced w/ THIS 31mm LED festoon bulb. Now front and rear match.

I do have most of the new badges for the car, I'll post a pic of them when the last piece comes in.
Just a small mod done this evening - the inside trunk handle. Works great and it’s nice and sturdy. Kia really should have included this from the beginning. I used the same hardware that @K5iFound had in his post HERE. Quite simple and easy to do. Took all of about 15 minutes.

Still waiting on one more emblem, but here's my next mild mod. These will be replacing the OEM badges on the car - Kia (fake) carbon fiber/red badges front and rear, red GT-L rear badge, and GT wheel center cap stickers (couldn't find ones that had GT-Line on them, so this is as close as I can get). I like the way the car looks overall and I don't want to black out any trim, though I do want to individualize it a bit, so I'm going w/ some red accents. I also plan on painting the brake calipers red. Still waiting on one more piece, and for it to warm up a bit before I do this.
