Are any of you that opted for the 10.25" touch screen that comes with the Premium Package on the EX trim upset that Kia decided to remove the Wireless Android Auto even though it's standard on the 8" touch screen? It doesn't make sense that the more expensive EX with the more expensive 10.25" screen would not have a feature available on the less expensive 8" version. I have emailed Kia and I am waiting for their input.

I am aware that the "AAWireless" adapter/dongle, that brings wireless to any Android Auto unit, will be available via the Indiegogo campaign but the first units won't be out until December and those are sold out. The next batch will be available in March but we shouldn't have to use a third party to get the wireless feature. We need to put a little pressure on Kia to provide an update or other means to get Wireless Android Auto.

What are your thoughts?
I plan to contact Kia about this also. It makes no sense that the upgrade to the 10.25" screen brings with it a downgrade without the wireless Apple Car Play! Did you use the Consumer Assistance Center portal for your communications with them? Or did you have an actual email address? Please let me know. Thanks!

I contacted Kia via their portal and received responses (example below) from: [email protected]

We have received your recent online contact and we appreciate the opportunity to assist. Unfortunately, we do not have any information regarding product design details or information regarding design decisions. As the vehicle manufacturer, we value customer feedback and consider this information paramount to our brand. We will ensure your input is provided to the appropriate levels within KMA. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for contacting Kia.

Sincerely,

Haley S.

Are forum participants should contact Kia to issue an update that provides Wireless Android Auto to the 10.25" screen and have the AA fill the entire screen.

Neither is "broken"; Wireless AA & Apple Car Play are just not available for the 10.25" screen even though they are available on the less expensive 8" screen. That is why I ask that all owners of the 10.25" screen to complain to Kia to get them to issue a software update or other means to make wireless AA and ACP available.
I emailed Kia and this was their lame response:

I replied to that email with a more forceful request and notified them that I was requesting more complaints from a "Kia Forum". I have been able to get into the "Engineering" menu of my 10.25" screen and saw that it has a wi-fi module. We need to keep the pressure on Kia to get them to update the firmware for wireless AA.

I get the impression that not many Kia owners out there have opted for the 10.25" screen since very few have posted a response to this discussion. Come on people, let's mobilize and show Kia that their customers expect more them than just a lame response.
Who do I email? This Low Tech in the EX is really shocking. My 2018 Optima Ex had better technology. It had built in navigation and it worked well. It also had the side mirrors that folded back and individual setting for two drivers. The K5 doesn't have any of those.

You know, I got sick of Android Auto in my other car. Really primitive graphics and not very great at voice recognition either. I don't miss it one bit. I like the stock GPS just fine. In fact, now with this 10.5 inch screen, I like driving with just the home page on. Really mute and kind of classy. Generally dark with a splash of color, with just my user name, outside temp and time and a darkened map area.

According to the engineering menu, the 10.25" head unit is equipped with BCM89359 5G WiFi/Bluetooth Smart 2X2 MIMO Combo Chip with RSDB Support. Its key features are:
  • Optimized for seamless interaction with enhanced wireless applications and feature-rich systems like Apple CarPlay and Google Auto Link, the BCM89359 device is the first WLAN combo architected specifically for multi-band concurrent automotive infotainment and telematics operation.
  • RSDB support enables simultaneous connectivity to the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, improving throughput and latency when using multiple applications.
  • Integrated 5G WiFi technology provides the bandwidth required for multiple high resolution in-car displays, allowing uncongested 5GHz video to coexist concurrently with Wi-Fi Internet access and 2.4GHz Bluetooth hands-free audio.
  • 2x2 MIMO technology delivers twice the Wi-Fi performance of any other solution on the market today, providing the highest throughput in-car network possible for multiple user experiences.
  • A dedicated Bluetooth antenna enables concurrent operation of Bluetooth and WLAN applications and employs advanced coexistence algorithms to maximize voice quality and data access speed in simultaneous operation.
So after getting adb to work I was able to open the wifi screen and connect to my AP

Could you share some details?
Well from the looks of the dump I pulled, the PhoneProjection app has code that mentions wireless AA and ACP. Unfortunately, it looks rather incomplete. I can't tell for sure because I can't set the prop even with root it won't take.

Code:
.method public static isSupportWireless()Z
    .locals 2

    .prologue
    const/4 v0, 0x0

    .line 236
    invoke-static {}, Lcom/daudio/app/phoneprojection/util/PhoneProjectionUtils;->isSupportWirelessAndroidAuto()Z

    move-result v1

    if-nez v1, :cond_0

    invoke-static {}, Lcom/daudio/app/phoneprojection/util/PhoneProjectionUtils;->isSupportWirelessCarPlay()Z

    move-result v1

    if-nez v1, :cond_0

    const-string v1, "ro.product.opt.useppwireless"

    invoke-static {v1, v0}, Landroid/os/SystemProperties;->getBoolean(Ljava/lang/String;Z)Z

    move-result v1

    if-eqz v1, :cond_1

    :cond_0
    const/4 v0, 0x1

    :cond_1
    return v0
.end method

.method public static isSupportWirelessAndroidAuto()Z
    .locals 1

    .prologue
    .line 246
    const-string v0, "com.hkmc.software.connectivity.androidauto_wireless"

    invoke-static {v0}, Lcom/hkmc/Feature;->hasFeature(Ljava/lang/String;)Z

    move-result v0

    return v0
.end method

.method public static isSupportWirelessCarPlay()Z
    .locals 1

    .prologue
    .line 241
    const-string v0, "com.hkmc.software.connectivity.carplay_wireless"

    invoke-static {v0}, Lcom/hkmc/Feature;->hasFeature(Ljava/lang/String;)Z

    move-result v0

    return v0
.end method

Maybe we can get a proper method from a version with Wireless AA? Is this code you posted taken from com.hkmc.software.connectivity.androidauto_wireless.apk ?
Doesn't appear to be an app more so a flag determining if the build has the feature. I'll have to do some more digging tonight. The main goal now is to find a way to restore it if any thing goes wrong.

I have a new Sorento MQ4 equipped with a Prestige package with a 10.25" screen. It's completely irracional to exclude wireless Android Auto from the more expensive and more advanced system. I hope it's only a matter of a new software but if 10.25" system lacks proper Wi-Fi module, then software update won't help.
Agreed I paid almost 40k for the gt model and the 10” display. I was sad to learn after having one of the base models for a couple weeks to get into my new gt and not have it. It almost threw me off then it shows an error code every time I get in the car when it auto connects to Bluetooth saying it “cannot download contacts please contact Kia consumer support for more details”. It also says this out loud which makes it all the more annoying I know I can take off the prompts but then I won’t hear any of the others. This was rushed in my opinion why els put a prompt to go to Kia to fix it. Js

Just an observation... Why is this wireless thing such a big issue. Personally android auto looks primative. I rarely use if at all.
I'm sure future updates will smooth things out. Everything we get with the GT, makes me forget about the wireless android auto. (none issue for me at least) Aside this minor issue, it's a fantastic car.

Hey buddy how are ya.
I saw your post Regarding being able to open up the wifi through adb. On your kia widescreen.
I am very interested to hear how you did it. I'm thinking maybe the USA units are still android, but the Europe are Linux. Therefor not much to be found on the engineering menu.
