Hello all,

I have noise coming from the front passenger side, that sound like a bit hallow and metallic. Deal refused to look at it because I have lowering springs installed. (WTF right)
I have raised the car up and tugged on anything I felt could be making the noise, Sway Bar, Wheels, CV axle but nothing. It's only when I'm driving I hear it.

My only other thought is it could be a blown out shock but the car is not bouncy...

Anyone else have this issue or suggestions?

Thank you ....

Any chance you're hearing the passenger seat belt hitting the pillar? Not likely.... sound seems to be coming from the front \ lower of the car.
Have you hear of stock shocks going out by simply adding lowering springs ( M&S )? Doesn't seem it would.

A lot of people have lowered their cars and not had this problem. How low is it - could the car be hitting the suspension stop?

Does the sound occur randomly, over rough roads, or when hitting a bump?

Standard drop 1 -1.25" nothing crazy. The springs are M&S .
The noise is Random, I can go over a bump and not hear it.. Be driving and hit on a smooth road and hear it. Pis sses me abit because hard to pin point. I do believe the dealer tried to find the noise as well. After getting the car back, I was missing screws and trim nuts missing that hold the under carriage cover on.

Intermittent problems are the worst to diagnose.

Most of the time poor workmanship like that (missing retainers) is due to mechanics being pulled off a car they are working on and another mechanic is put on the car later - who doesn't know what the first mechanic did.

I had missing undercover clips missing after an oil change before. I don't live far from the dealership so I drove straight back and let them know. Granted, I have extra OEM clips at home and could have just put them on but I wanted to give them a heads up since it was their service.

I hope you find out what's causing the noise, though, and hopefully it's an easy fix.

Thank you KumoMochi, It was a 30 mile drive for me to the dealer... I had clips and screws on hand.

My next action is to remove the strut and reseed the spring. I don't think this is the cause but I am running out of options. Hopefully, I can get to it next weekend.

When you hear the noise can you feel a vibration in the the shifter handle? You don't list if you have AWD or not, if you do have the dealer check the propshaft going from the trans to the rear transaxle. The bearing on the propshaft might be bad. I also had a similar noise and thankfully the service manager had already dealt with this issue on his K5 GT-Line AWD. Replaced under warranty.

My K5 is only two wheel drive. There does seem to be a bit of vibration nothing crazy, sounds like one tube inside another hitting each other at times. Not very loud, and not all the time.

When you hear the noise can you feel a vibration in the the shifter handle? I normally don't have my hand on the shifter.. I'll be sure to do so next drive.

The bearing on the propshaft might be bad...... Do you mean where the trans axle shaft meets the transmission?
If so, I did notice it had a little play when I tugged on it, while the front passenger wheel was up in the air.
Using a second floor Jack, I compressed the front wheel and it went away.

Hello again,
The weather finally cleared up a bit .... I took two short videos. I don't think it has anything to do with the lowering springs or shock making the noise. I think the passenger half shaft has too much play. Thus, when I go over a bad uneven surfaces the shaft decompresses enough to allow the shaft to rattle. Let me know what you guys think.

I would show your videos to the service manager at your dealer and ask for their opinion.

Thank you for the prob's GlaciaWhiteGT....

I spoke to the service manager and he agreed to review the videos... Let's see what they come back with.

Meantime, if anyone has their car in the air and can try to duplicate the shaft movement and post it. It would be greatly apricated.
