I downloaded and installed a new map navigation update in my 2024 K5 GT in early January .... maybe this update we are talking about here is the same one that I already installed ?

Here is the list of cars:

And here is the updater file that you will need to first install in your PC in order for you to download the actual navigation update and then transfer it into a thumb drive.

It took me 11 hours to download the 23-24 K5 Nav Files to my 64GB flash drive!

Two Questions for those who have done this:

1. How long will it take to install in car?

2. Can I NOT install the "sports" upgrade? I'd prefer to not install any files I don't intend to use.

TIA!

Don my 24, downloading the file to my pc took about an hour. The car update about an hour also. But you can turn car off once update starts. Not sure if you can pick and choose files. It's just score updates. I do it to check laker game score on way to work since I work nights and seem to always miss end of the game

The updates are all or nothing.
Taking 11hrs sounds like internet problem. Not a file problem. 1 hr updates is standard install time

It gives you a couple options when you start the update. If you choose to keep the car on, you wont be able to use your infotainment during the install
You can see in the picture I posted above the download speed was @800 KB/s. I don't know how to change it - I guess that's what my internet provider provides.
One second per MB means the 29,977 MB file takes 8.5 hours! Since I was downloading at less then one second per MB (1000 KB Vs 800 KB) it took nearly 11 hours...:-( 12 noon to nearly 11 PM.
If you can download a 29,977 MB file in an hour then your download speed is 8,326 KB/s - impressive!

I'm hoping when I install this file into my K5 it does so at 8,326 KB/s - or faster...:)

800kb is dial up/DSL and that doesn't seem accurate. With today's internet, you should be at minimum of 100mb/100,000kb download

What is the speed youre paying for now in mb, and when was the last time they replaced your modem?

Contact your ISP and have them look into your modem box. There could be a firmware to fix it, or they need to replace it

9 minutes in and it's showing about 1/4 installed already,

Update completed. Took 1 hour and 45 minutes.

I left the car ON (engine not running) the entire time. I watched as the dash counter counted down to shut off - in the last minute there was a continuous warning beep...but when it hit 0:00 the car stayed on while the update was in progress. You can also hit the "OK" button on the steering wheel to reset the shut down clock.

I have not been able to confirm that the version being mentioned is a new update or simply added 2025 models. The info on the navigation updater app show "2024 1st navigation map and software update". while the one on mapnsoft says "2024 2nd year update release in late February".

Newer cars will get OTA (Over-the-air) updates.

K5 owners should go to "settings" then "general" and look at their "SW/Info Update" screen to see what the latest Navigation software system is that they have. that way they can decide if they need to do the update.
