Hello everyone, just curious if any other K5 owners that use wireless carplay have had any connectivity issues?

Ive noticed mine will randomly give a connection error. Sometimes 3-4 times in a short drive. Seems to be more frequent when using maps. Driving me nuts.

I have ruled out my iphone as i have forgot the car in carplay settings, reset network settings and finally restored it, set up as new, have no issues with airpods or any other bluetooth accessory. I have factory reset the infotainment system as well with no change in behavior.

anyone have any ideas before i make an appointment w the dealer?

I have been using the Waze option for the maps and it hasn't disconnected on me using it. I have noticed, when using the stock Android auto maps, that is part of Android auto, if I am on the phone, or use the Xm radio it disconnected more often. Using the Waze maps, it doesn't do it. If Idon't try and listen to or change my music options or use the phone, my Android Auto wont disconnect when using the regular maps option. Sounds like there is a software issue that needs resolved.

Well, I will tell you once I updated to iOS14.0 and now 14.1 I have have constant warnings that it disconnected but it never really did. I have had it truly disconnect and you can tell when it does beacause it goes to Bluetooth sound for the music and you can really hear the difference. That being said it is the handshake between ios14 and the head unit. My sons phone which I have not updated to ios14 is rock solid, never disconnects. Unfortunately one of the main selling points on this car to me was the wireless CarPlay and now it’s broken. The only solution is going to be in an update that fixes it from the Apple side or an update from the KIA software side. Hopefully KIA knows what’s going on and is working on a software fix on their side. I do find it ironic that all Kia‘s literature states have the latest software update on your phone for the best performance and now that’s broken it.

I took delivery of my K5 EX two months ago. While I experienced this issue a few times prior, it definitely seems to have gotten worse after upgrading my iPhone to 14.1.

I took my car in to Kia service on 11-09-22 and they could not find anything wrong, I picked up my car connected my phone wirelessly and bam . I get the disconnected message while still at the dealer I tell the service advisor, they come over they then call the tech to walk over and I show them my problem. They could not fix it on the spot. They told me that they were going to open up a case with Kia. They Also mentioned that they can only do a software update if KIA approves otherwise they can’t touch the radio unit at all. I would suggest anyone having this issue to take their car in so that they can come up with a solution ASAP or create a campaign so that they can update everyones software

Okay so quick update with me:
I took my 3day old K5 (2021) to my local Kia dealer ship, explained to them what was going on and how I came across this site online and how the same issues with my carplay is happening to other folks CarPlay. Well.... they kinda brushed off the issue because the car is BRAND NEW AND ALSO THE FACT I WENT TO THE INTERNET; and said “don’t believe everything you see on the internet” BLAH! Anywho long story short they couldn’t find what the exact problem was so they opened up a claim with Kia. And they told me that KIA is aware of the issue and hopefully they will have this issue resolved! (FYI I was told the K5s is the first car they tried the “WIRELESS CarPlay” on. EPIC FAIL!
