Hey all,
Just got my 2024 K5 gt line yesterday and today I noticed that I can't lock the car from the inside door lock button when the car is off.

This is annoying and a bit of a safety risk because if im ever in a store and I leave another adult in the car and they feel the need to lock the doors if the car's off and I have the fob they literally can't. Not to mention I'm used to turning my cars off, opening the door and then hitting the lock button before closing the door. It's a pain now trying to remember to either push the button on the outside of the door or use the key fob to lock it.

Anyone know what the problem is? It's like this on both the driver and passenger doors. When the car is on the lock button works but when it's off only the unlock button works.

My 2023 K5 does the same thing - can't lock the doors with the inside door button whether the key fob is inside or outside the car, engine off, doors open or closed.

Never found a solution.
Same. There has to be a solution. I've literally never seen a car with automatic locks that don't let me lock the door.

Drives me crazy when I don't have the key fob, go into the garage, and find I forgot to lock the car. The inside door switch doesn't lock the car nor does the outside button. Have to go get the key fob to lock the doors.

Another oddity is...when you park the car and forget to lock it the car doesn't lock itself. But if you park the car and lock it then later unlock it with the key fob, if you don't open a door in 30 seconds the car will lock itself.
Yea I thought maybe why it wouldn't lock at first was bc it auo locks when you walk away but nope! Apparently that use to be a function you could turn on and off in the settings but it's not there now. I've never owned a Kia before so idk whats going on I seriously hope for the price of this vehicle there's a simple fix.

All K5s are that way. No solution available.

I know the EX Premium has the approach where it unlocks when it detects the fob near by. It also locks when you walk away.
The gt line doesn't have that feature unfortunately. If someone leaves their friend or spouse or another adult in the car without the key (bc the key usually stays in the pocket) they should be able to lock the doors if they get scared or wanna feel safe while taking a nap, etc. I can't believe the car just doesn't do this.

I guess Kia went from making their cars easy to steal to making them even easier to break into. Such a shame.

...yet you can lock the doors from the inside when the engine is running...

Only makes sense to keep you from locking the key fob in the car is my guess. But once the key fob is on the outside of the car you should be able to lock it with the inside door switch. I can in my Kia Forte.
I had a 2016 focus and before that a 2011 sonata and both cars allowed me to lock the door from the inside door lock button when the cars off. They also both have keyfobs.

Not only every time I was getting out of the car but also there were so many times I was in the house and needed something I left in the car. So I would hit the unlock button on the keyfob then hit the lock button on the inside of the door before closing it when finished.

If the k5 is off you can lock it from the door handle but not from the lock button on the inside of the door? But if the car is on you can lock it from the lock button inside but you can't lock it from the door handle?? Make it make sense.

Just for fun...I went out and checked my car again.

I cannot lock the car with the inside driver's door switch with the door open - however - with the door closed and the key fob NOT inside the car I can lock the car with the inside switch.
That's interesting but still annoying. Why on earth won't it allow you to lock when the door is open?

I have a 24 k5 gt and the locks do work when ingnition is off. You have to go to settings for vehicle and change how locks work...Hope this is helpful
There are no settings for the lock when the car is off. Only on and it's to auto lock when shifting or when accelerating. Unless you're talking about a different setting?

I believe you are talking about the doors unlocking when the car is on Park. And locks when you put the car on Drive
I'm saying the only settings I know are in vehicle settings where you can choose to lock the door when the car starts accelerating or when you shift out of park. There are also settings for unlocking. However, I do not know of any setting where you can choose to lock the door with the lock button on the inside of the door. If you know of a way then please enlighten me bc I just bought the car a week ago. Every car I've ever had did this. So it's strange that this one doesnt.
